GhostChef terms of use

1. Who we are
GhostChef is offered by [NAAM], [ADRES], Belgium (enterprise number [KBO-NUMMER]). Contact: app.ghostchef@outlook.com. All details are on the legal notice page.
2. When these terms apply
These terms apply as soon as you create an account or post content. The community guidelines and the copyright policy are part of them. How we handle your data is described in the privacy policy. The app is in Dutch; button names are quoted as they appear in the app.
3. The service
GhostChef is a free cooking app. You can browse, create and publish recipes, have a recipe made from a cooking video, cook step by step in cook mode, post cook photos, like and save recipes, follow other cooks, keep shopping lists and a pantry, scan your fridge, earn XP, build a cooking streak and take part in the monthly leaderboard. The app is free and funded by ads. There are no in-app purchases.
Some features have limits, for example 5 videos per month, 2 cook photos per recipe and 7 reports per week. You earn cook mode XP once a day. These limits are shown in the app and may change.
4. Age
You must be at least the age that applies in your country for consenting to online services yourself:

When you log in, you declare: “Ik heb de leeftijd die in mijn regio nodig is om deze app te gebruiken” (I am the age required in my region to use this app). If you are younger, you may not create an account, not even with your parents’ permission. If the law in your country becomes stricter, the new age applies.
5. Your account
- You log in with a Google or GitHub account.
- One account per person. Do not use someone else’s account and do not share your login details.
- You choose your username and display name once; after that you cannot change them yourself. Do not choose a name that is offensive, impersonates someone or misuses a trademark.
- You can always delete your account yourself via Account → Account verwijderen, or by email (see Delete account).
6. Your content
The recipes, photos, videos and names you post remain yours, and you are responsible for them. With every public upload you confirm that you have the rights or permission to share that content. If recognisable people appear in your photo or video, you also need their permission.
By publishing content you grant GhostChef a free, non-exclusive, worldwide licence, for as long as the content is online, to store, display, technically adapt (for example resize or crop) and distribute it within the app and through the share function. Other users may view your public recipes, cook them and share them through the app’s share function. If you delete your content or your account, this licence ends. We cannot recall what others have already shared through the share function.
7. Rules and screenshots
Follow the community guidelines. Do not try to hack or overload the app, scrape it automatically or get around its limits. On recipe and cooking screens the app blocks screenshots and screen recordings. Do not try to get around this; use the share function to send a recipe.
8. AI features
Some features use AI from OpenAI: video to recipe, the fridge scan and the automatic checks. We ask for your consent first for each type of action. A recipe made with AI may contain errors in quantities, temperatures, times or allergens. Check it before you publish it. More information is on AI in GhostChef.
9. No nutritional or medical advice
Recipes come from users or are made with AI. They are not nutritional, dietary or medical advice. Check allergens, shelf life and whether food is properly cooked yourself.
10. How we moderate content
We give this information under Article 14 of the Digital Services Act.
- Automatic checks beforehand: names, recipe text and photos are checked automatically before publication, with OpenAI and with our own list of banned words. If something is rejected, you see it straight away and can change it.
- Reports: anyone can report content, in the app or by email (see Report illegal content). Every report is reviewed by a person.
- Blocking: you can block other users. You then no longer see each other’s recipes, including in your saved recipes, and cannot follow each other. If you unblock someone, those saved recipes come back.
- Measures: refusing, hiding or removing content, and suspending or closing an account temporarily or permanently. We choose a measure that fits how serious and how frequent the issue is, taking everyone’s rights into account, such as freedom of expression.
- Statement of reasons: if we take action against your content or account, we email you why, which rule or law it is based on, whether automated means were used and what you can do, unless an authority forbids it.
- Appeal: reply to our email. A person reviews your appeal again. You can also go to court or file a complaint with the Digital Services Coordinator (in Belgium, BIPT).
- Misuse: anyone who frequently posts manifestly illegal content or frequently files manifestly unfounded reports may first get a warning and then be blocked temporarily or permanently.
We do not check everything for illegality in advance. As soon as we know something is illegal, we remove it quickly.
11. Advertising
GhostChef shows ads through Google AdMob: shortly after adding to your shopping list, when starting cook mode, after an approved cook photo, and as a banner while a video recipe is being made. On first launch you choose in Google’s consent screen whether ads may be personalised. You change that choice via Account → Advertentievoorkeuren.
12. Availability and changes
We do our best to keep the app working well, but outages and maintenance can happen. We may change, add or stop features. If we shut down the whole app, we will announce it at least 30 days in advance so you can download your data.
If we change these terms on an important point, we will announce it in advance in the app. If you do not agree, you can delete your account.
13. Liability
The app is free. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for other users’ content, for errors in recipes or for damage we could not reasonably foresee. Nothing in these terms limits our liability for intent, gross negligence, harm to life or health, or anything the law does not allow us to exclude. Your statutory consumer rights always apply.
14. Ending
You can stop at any time by deleting your account. We may close your account for serious or repeated breaches of these terms, with a statement of reasons as in section 10. If we end your account for another reason, we will give you at least 30 days’ notice.
15. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by Belgian law. If you live in another EU country, you keep the protection of that country’s mandatory consumer rules. If there is a problem, please contact us first. For mediation you can turn to the Consumer Ombudsman Service. You can also go to the court where you live.
